普段の日常生活で友人や家族や恋人との待ち合わせや仕事でも遅刻したり間に合わない事などありますよね？
そんな遅刻しそうなシチュエーションの時に英語でなんて言えばいいのかご存知でしょうか？
今回のBlogはそんな場面で使える「間に合わない」の英語フレーズ勉強方法を紹介します。

予定時刻に間に合わない時
I won’t be there on time.
時間通りに間に合わない。
“on time”は英語で「時間通りに」という意味★
I’m sorry, I won’t be there on time. Please go ahead and order.
（ごめん、約束の時間に間に合わへん。先に注文しといて。）
Ok, then we’ll order some drinks while we wait.
（わかった、じゃあドリンクでも頼んで待っとくわ。）
I won’t be able to make it on time.
時間に間に合いそうにない
“make it on time”は英語で「時間に間に合う」という意味。「なんとか間に合う」という表現でよく使うフレーズです。“won’t”は”will not”の短縮形で、”be able to”は「〜できる」という意味なので、「間に合わせることができそうにない」と訳せます。
Where are you now? The movie is going to start in like 5 minutes.
（今、どこや？映画があと5分くらいで始まるやけど。）
I’m stuck in traffic. I won’t be able to make it on time.
（渋滞にはまってる。時間に間に合いそうにないわ。）
”to ◯◯”でコンサートなどのイベントを入れてれば、その開始時間に遅れそうな事を伝えれます。
I won’t be able to make it to the concert on time. （コンサートの時間に間に合いそうにないです。）
I’m not sure if I can make it on time.
間に合うかどうかわからへん。
「なんとか時間に間に合う」という意味の”make it on time”を使った英語表現★
“I’m not sure if 〜”は、「〜かどうか確信が持てない」という意味になります。「もしかしたら間に合わないかも…」そんなシチュエーションではこのフレーズが使えます。
Just to remind you. The movie will start at 5.
（念のための連絡やけど、５時に映画は始まるからな。）
Yeah I know, but I’m not sure if I can make it on time. Can we push it back to 6:00pm?
（うん、それは覚えてるんだけど、間に合うかどうかわからないな。6時にずらせない？）
I’ll miss ◯◯.
◯◯に間に合わない。
”miss”は、ここでは「〜を逃す」という意味です。
電車やバスなど、出発時間に遅れて乗れない場面で使うことが多いですが、乗り物以外にも、映画、コンサート、予約、イベントなど、予定時刻に遅れてその機会を逃してしまう場面でも使えるフレーズです。
Hey, didn’t you say you have to go see your doctor this afternoon?
（ねぇ、今日の午後は医者に行くって言ってなかった？）
Oh yeah! I have to go now, otherwise I’ll miss the appointment.
（そうやった！もう行かな！、じゃないと予約時間に間に合わへん。）
I’ll miss the train.（電車に間に合わない。）
I’ll miss the flight. （フライトに間に合わない。）
I’ll miss the bus.（バスに間に合わない。）
I’ll miss the movie. （映画に間に合わない。）
I might be late for ◯◯.
◯◯に遅れそうです。
“be late”は英語で「時間に遅れる」という意味です。ここでは「〜かもしれない」という意味の”might”を使っていて、「もしかしたら遅れるかも」みたいな感じになります。
Sorry, I might be late for dinner tonight. I’ve got a meeting at 5. I hope it’ll be quick.
（ごめん、今夜のディナー遅れるかもしれない。5時に会議が入ってしまったんだ。すぐに終わるといいんだけど。）
Ok, No problem. But Please let me know when you’re done as soon as possible.
（わかった。大丈夫よ。でも終わったらすぐに連絡して。）
締め切り/納期に間に合わない
We won’t be able to meet the deadline.
納期に間に合いそうにないです。
“deadline”は「締め切り」や「納期」の意味です。”meet the deadline”で「締め切りに間に合う」という意味になります。
“won’t”は”will not”の短縮形で、”be able to”は「〜できる」という意味なので、フレーズ全体で「間に合わせることができそうにない」みたいな感じになります。
I’m afraid we won’t be able to meet the deadline. Is it possible to extend it?
（申し訳ないのですが納期に間に合いそうにないのです。納期延長は可能でしょうか？）
We can only extend it for two weeks. Would that be ok?
（2週間でしたら延長できますが、それで大丈夫でしょうか？）
We won’t be able to meet the delivery day. （配達日に間に合いそうにありません。）
We won’t be able to deliver it on time.
納品が間に合いそうにありません。
“deliver”は「配達する」「納品する」という意味。”deliver on time”で「予定通りに届ける」というニュアンスになります。
I’m sorry to tell you that we won’t be able to deliver it on time. It will arrive there on saturday.
（申し訳ないのですが、納品が間に合いそうにありません。土曜日の配達になりそうです。）
That should be ok.
（それなら大丈夫だと思います。）
We’ll miss the due date.
締め切りに間に合いません。
“due date”「締め切り」や「納期」の意味★
”deadline”と似たような使い方ができますが、”due”はもともと「〜することになっている」という意味なので、”due date”は「支払い期日」「配達日」「レポート提出日」など「その日にするべきこと」の意味になります。
“miss”「〜を逃す」という意味。”miss the due date”で「締め切りに間に合わない」というニュアンスです。
Oh my gosh, I still haven’t filed my tax return. I’ll miss the due date!
（どうしよう、納税申告の手続き、まだ全然終わってないや。このままだと締め切りに間に合わないよ！）
Calm down. I’ll help you out.
（ちょっと落ち着けよ。手伝ってあげるから。）
Our production is behind schedule.
生産が間に合ってないです★
“behind”は「〜の後ろ」「〜に遅れて」という意味があって、”behind schedule”で「予定より遅れて」という意味になります。
I’m afraid our production is behind schedule right now since there was a mechanical failure. Would it be possible to delay the delivery for a couple of days?
（申し訳ありませんが機械の不具合が発生して生産が間に合っていない状況です。何日か納品を遅らせることは可能でしょうか？）
I see. We need them to be delivered by the end of this week at the latest.
（わかりました。遅くても今週中までに納品いただきたいのですが。）
Our production is 4 days behind schedule. （生産が4日遅れています。）
We’re unable to ship as scheduled.
予定通りに出荷が間に合いません。
“ship”は「出荷する」「輸送する」という意味。”ship as scheduled”で「スケジュール通りに出荷する」となります。
“be unable to”は「〜できない」「〜することは不可能だ」という意味ですが、”can not”を使うよりもフォーマルな感じになります。
I’m sorry to tell you that we’re unable to ship as scheduled. We just found a defect on some of our products.
（申し訳ないのですが予定通りに出荷が間に合いません。先ほどいくつかの製品に欠陥が見つかりました。）
Oh no, how much more time do you think you need?
（それは大変、出荷まであとどれくらい時間が必要ですか？）
We’re unable to ship on time. （予定通りに出荷が間に合いません。）
“as scheduleed”の代わりに、”on time”を使っても同じような表現になります。
We’re unable to ship within this week.（今週中に出荷できそうにありません。）
We’re unable to ship by the end of the day. /今日中までに出荷できそうにありません。
